Belinda, how would you sum up Darkside in one line?

A village policeman is torn between caring for his vulnerable wife and catching a serial killer – who seems to know every move he makes.

You have had an extraordinary year, winning the Gold Dagger for Best Crime Novel of 2010 with your first novel, Blacklands. How would you sum up your experience of being a published author so far?

Amazing! This has been the stuff of fantasy, with Blacklands being chosen for the TV Book Club even before it was published. So right from the start, I knew it was going to be okay. It was an enormous relief more than anything else. But by the time the Gold Dagger came round it was very exciting too!

Belinda, how would you sum up Blacklands in one line, to a curious amazon customer?
Blacklands is about the cat-and-mouse game a 12-year-old boy plays with a serial killer.

What inspired you to tell this particular tale?
I saw the mother of Moors victim Keith Bennett on TV, and started to wonder about the longstanding effects of such a terrible crime – how it must break a family apart. I thought – if I were that woman’s grandchild, how could I repair those rifts?
