Would YOU know a killer if you looked him in the eyes?
Shipcott in bleak mid-winter: a close knit community where no stranger goes unnoticed. So when an elderly woman is murdered in her bed, village policeman Jonas Holly is doubly shocked. How could someone have killed and left no trace?
Jonas finds himself sidelined as the investigation is snatched away from him by an abrasive senior detective. Is his first murder investigation over before it’s begun?
But this isn’t the end of it for Jonas, because someone in the village is taunting him, blaming him for the tragedy, and watching every move he makes…
SPOILER ALERT:
If you have read Darkside and would like to know more about how it came about, you have permission to read my author note. If you haven’t read Darkside and think you might like to some day, I strongly urge you to NOT to read this note, however tempting it might be! It really would ruin the book for you. Belinda
Read both books one after the other. Loved the setting and the way the same people are referred to in the 2nd book. So there’s another one out? How come I haven’t seen it in my library yet??? I shall have to investigate! These books draw you in page after page. Just brilliant! and Darkside actually had me feeling quite spooked at times. Another author to add to my list of favourites!!
In college and had a novel assignment my friend and I went to barnes and noble and she ended up picking out “Dark Side” for me, glad she did, really great book with a twist it’s seriously like watching a suspense horror movie on the big screen. I wont spoil the book for those who have not read it but i will be checking out her first book, did not realize i was reading in the middle…
My curiousity is peaked with the name of the village – same as my surname, and quite a rare one.
As I am a fan of murder-mysteries, I shall try to get my hands on a copy here in Canada, and see whether my curiousity for the place-name AND the storyline are able to be satisfied!
Really well written and a great pleasure to read. Many laugh-out-loud moments. Procedure and Psychology spot-on.
I didn’t think I could love Darkside as much I as loved Blacklands…but I was wrong. Awesome read. I can’t wait to purchase her next book.
Thank you for a completely engrossing read! Your characters are so well developed and easy to relate to that they make for superbly involving narrative. Wow, what a finishing climax!
How tremendously well written. I read a lot of crime fiction, and, while plots are generally opaque I don’t care too much whodunnit, but this was utterly thrilling. I guess that what I like most is that Belinda’s books really are about the people, so soap and crime being my favourite genres, these beautifully written books tick all my boxes, and fill all my senses.
As librarian at Hay-on-Wye I so wish I’d come to see you. Bugger.
Enjoying Darkside at the moment and have a half-baked theory… Looking forward to the conclusion but as tempted as I am, will NOT read the spoiler!
My library suggested this book me, Couldn’t lay it down. Looking forward to the next….
A gripping story with an implausible ending which I found difficult to understand. I have now read Belinda’s commentary which justifies the ending & reders the book more of a psychological exercise & less of a whodunit. John Evans
I loved Blacklands, I was eagerly looking forward to an audio download (I have bad eyesight) of Darkside but 54.00 is too steep for me, I will wait and hope it comes down in price. If anyone reading this is wondering if this ladys books are good believe me they are, and cannot wait for the audio download when it comes down abit. I love your your work Belinda. Carole
Great book – couldn’t stop reading it! Looking forward to another great story from Belinda Bauer.
